Who we are

Kovau Therapy is a mobile community physiotherapy service that brings quality care directly to you—whether at home, in supported accommodation, or within your local community.

We provide physiotherapy to NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) participants, Support At Home (formerly Aged Care Package) recipients, and DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs) clients, ensuring that every person can access the support they need in a comfortable and familiar environment.

Our focus is on helping individuals improve mobility, balance, strength, and confidence, while promoting safety, independence, and quality of life. We take pride in working collaboratively with families, support coordinators, and care teams to achieve meaningful, long-term outcomes.

KOVAU THERAPY

For me, “Kovau” embraces the idea that meaningful change often takes courage, discipline, and a willingness to step into the unfamiliar.

The name combines “Kova” — a Finnish word meaning strong, firm, or resilient — with my family name, Au, as a heartfelt homage to my family.

In choosing this name, I wanted to honour the brave steps people take everyday — whether it’s standing up from a chair without any additional supports, walking across the room without the fear of falling, or gaining confidence and trust in their body again. It’s an invitation: you’re not alone in this, and together we’ll forge a path toward more independence, strength, and freedom to move.

Hi, I’m Joyce — a physiotherapist and founder of Kovau Therapy!

I started this service because I’ve always believed that great care shouldn’t just be accessible in clinics — it should be available where people feel most comfortable: in their own homes and communities. Over the years, working in a specialist neurological rehabilitation setting, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals from as young as 2 years of age to as wise as 103 years of age. My work has spanned across a wide range of conditions and functional abilities — from early developmental needs to complex neurological presentations. I provide support with NDIS applications, physiotherapy plan reviews, mobility and functional assessments, assistive technology recommendations, and report applications for mobility aids, bed equipment, wheelchairs, and complex seating systems. My goal is to make the process as clear and supportive as possible, helping clients access the right equipment and therapy to improve their independence and quality of life.

What I love most about my work is building genuine connections — taking the time to listen, to understand each person’s story, and to find ways to help them move, function, and live with more purpose and confidence. For me, physiotherapy is as much about people as it is about movement.

Outside of work, you’ll either catch me booking my next travel away, discovering new eateries, or wandering into bakeries with the smell of freshly baked pastries in the air. I’m always on the lookout for good matcha, weekend markets, and new hobbies — the little things that make life that much sweeter.
